From this desert environment, we’ll move onto the cooler reaches passing through the shadow of Mt. Kenya and onto this private sanctuary for rhino and chimpanzee. Here we’ll find the largest population of black rhino in East Africa and the last two surviving northern white rhino in the world.
But Ol Pejeta also offers chances to see Africa’s “Big Five” including six prides of lions and over 30 cheetahs. Other endangered and little-seen species spotted at the sanctuary include oryx, hartebeest, white-tailed mongoose and the tree hyrax.

As we journey on to Lake Nakuru, we’ll make a stop at the stunning Thompson’s Falls, a 74 m (243 ft) high falls that dramatically cascades into a deep gorge. All along this route we’ll take in farmland and the towering Rift Valley escarpment.
Lake Nakuru National Park: Due to some progressive natural factors like increasing water levels, the flamingo numbers have been reducing but the park itself remains stunning – one of Kenya’s finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfalls, wooded hills and euphorbia trees dots the lake.
The few quantities of flamingos are accompanied by other birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles. The scene here is bountiful, busy and full of color.
But that’s only the beginning of what this special park has to offer because the wildlife viewing here is easy and accessible. Lake Nakuru is known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore.
We’ll also visit the rhino sanctuary here. It offers protections to white rhino and one of Kenya’s largest populations of the black rhino.

Morning bird and game viewing drives
Proceed to the Masai Mara game reserves with stops at scenic points. Afternoon game viewing drives.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Everyone has heard of the Masai Mara, Kenya’s and perhaps the world’s most famous and popular park. Why? One reason is that the reserve is pleasing to the eye with its vast rolling hills and beautiful acacia trees. Also, it offers a dense and diverse array of wildlife – it is difficult to miss the masses of animals hunting, stalking and grazing the plains here.
Even more so during the Great Migration (July – October) when millions of wildebeest and zebra invade the Mara River from the neighboring Serengeti. The sight is an unforgettable spectacle of life in an endless cycle of survival. Nearby, crocodile and lions lie in wait.
offers two optional excursions at the Mara. You can take an early morning hot air balloon ride over this unforgettable spectacle, and also visit the local Maasai people to learn about them and their ancient herding culture. Just ask your driver/guide and he’ll be happy to make arrangements for this and other requests.

After a final morning game drive, we’ll depart for Lake Naivasha and its nearby parks. The area is a colorful mix of forests, waterfalls, extinct volcanoes and dramatic towers. We’ll start out on a bicycle safari at nearby Hell’s Gate National Park.
Overnight at your Lake Naivasha lodge / tented camp
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & dinner
This morning we’ll go on a boat safari on the lake itself to view the aquatic life all around us – hippos, birds – and larger game like buffalo, eland and impala grazing on the shore. For our third safari here we’ll take a guided walking tour at Crescent Island to easily stroll past curious wildebeest, waterbuck and gazelle.
Later proceed to the Amboseli national park.
Afternoon game viewing drive at the Amboseli.
This will be a full day of game viewing drives.
We’ll spend a full day here at this smaller but impressive national park. Why impressive? For one, we’re situated at the base of the largest mountain in Africa, legendary Mr. Kilimanjaro, looking out over the park. And here in Amboseli, you’re in the neighborhood of one of the largest populations of free-ranging elephants in the world. From your Jeep you’ll see endless parades of these large ivory-tusked giants.
We’ll go on many game drives here, but there will be time for relaxing as well at your lodge or tented campground. We’ve been going strong for 10 days now, so you can take a breather whenever you please. Or not. The choice is always up to you.
We’ll take one more early morning game drive at Amboseli before the fairly short drive to Tsavo West, one of the biggest, oldest and prettiest parks in Kenya. The park is a pleasing mix of hill country, extinct volcanoes with dark lava flows and lush green springs.
We’ll visit beautiful Mzima Springs with its life-giving waters and palm-lined shores. In this rich environment, we’ll gaze upon elephant, zebra and other wildlife attracted to this nourishing oasis. We’ll also see hippos and crocodiles who make this verdant spot their home.
Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch.
We’ll be up early for our second safari day to see as much wildlife as possible. There’s nothing like Africa’s golden light breaking over the hills and forest, calling to us and the animals, to emerge into the morning and see what adventures lie ahead.
Breakfast will follow at your accommodation. And then we hit the safari trail looking for more adventure as we track the “Big Five” plus smaller hunters and grazers like impala, hartebeest and the adorable bush baby.
Traveling over the park’s trails we’ll come upon the green palms and crystal waters of Mzima Springs, a life-giving haven for Tsavo’s wildlife. Here, we’ll leave our 4 x 4 to stretch and walk along the green shores to view hippo, crocodile, fish and varieties of birds. Also attracted to this refuge are many of the park’s animals, like zebra, monkeys, baboons and sometimes elephants.
Speaking of elephants, Tsavo West hosts a large population of these majestic figures and we’ll be looking for them amongst the rolling hills and plains,
But finally, it’s time to head back to the Kenya Coast. We’ve had two full days of wild parkland travel and wild animal sightings. Thank you for being our guest!
Drop off.
We should arrive at your hotel or resort in the late afternoon. You’ll have new memories to add to your holiday and hopefully for years to come. What you may see at Tsavo West National Park.
