We’ll arrive at the reserve in the afternoon and tour the three parks and their varied environments.
A major landmark at the border between Samburu and Buffalo Springs is the Ewaso Nyiro River which is a lifeline for the parks’ wildlife. It also creates an unexpected corridor of green forest along its path, breaking up the more arid look of the reserves.
Here we’ll find wildlife from the neighbouring reserves gathering to drink at the river’s nourishing banks. The river is also home to hippos, crocodiles, and some of the many varieties of birdlife found in the parks.

Following the path of the Ewaso Nyiro River, we’ll be on the lookout for elephant, buffalo, and some of the more entertaining wildlife like dik-dik, warthog and the olive baboon.
Samburu is also known as one of the two regions where conservationist Joy Adams raised Elsa the Lioness, later made famous in the book and movie, Born Free.
Here too, are the Samburu people, closely related to the Maasai, an indigenous, pastoral group, who have inhabited this region for eons.
As always on our safaris, be as active as you wish or relax at your safari accommodation.

We’ll be up early to view the park’s abundant wildlife, said to the densest of any park in the region. This will be a day of unlimited game drives over the golden fields and past the distinctive acacia trees adorning these plains.
Be on the lookout for Africa’s Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The birdlife is also abundant, and should you be here during the season of the Great Migration
Primarily made up of wildebeest and zebra, the migrating animals cross into the park by the thousands at the Mara River, also the site of hippos and waiting crocodiles. The potential drama here is inescapable as the streaming herds enter these lands for fresh grasses as the predators lie in wait.
Adding more richness to your Masai Mara experience, you can enjoy an optional visit to one of the local villages. There, you’ll meet the Maasai and see their lifestyle up close.
Another optional event is an early morning hot air balloon ride over the reserve. Take in the park below coming to life as the fields light up and the wildlife begin a new day on the savannah. A magnificent experience – just ask your driver/guide to set up either or both activities.

We like to rise early while on safari to set an adventurous tone for the day. We’ll watch the light breaking upon the park and catch the wildlife as it appears on the savannah.
Our next assignment: breakfast! And then another morning game drive through the park. One of the advantages of Amboseli is that the terrain is open with thin foliage. This makes the game spotting easier.
We’ll be watching for lion and leopard and the park’s almost ever-present great parade of elephants. Seeing the magnificent elephants patrolling in line before the majesty of Kilimanjaro is a special treat of this reserve.
Lunch at your accommodation is next and perhaps some relaxing time. The day is yours to pace as you want.
Should you want to fill your day with unlimited game drives, your guide is available to make that happen as well.

We’ll spend second night at the Lodge or camp of your choice.
Our final day in the park and we want to squeeze in all the game viewing we can. We’ll start on a pre-breakfast safari and see who we can check off our list. Don’t forget to look for the smaller animals here like hyenas, foxes, jackals, and monkeys.
There’s also a colorful variety of rich birdlife in the park – pelican, kingfisher, egret and heron are found near the park’s marshes and lakes.
We’ll enjoy one more Amboseli breakfast, with views of great Kilimanjaro and then a final game drive as we exit the reserve.
Drop off.
It’s time for our drive back to Nairobi. It’s also a time to dwell upon all the wildlife we’ve seen and experienced over our safari.
We’ll be back in town late afternoon and drop you off at Nairobi Hotel/Nairobi Airport.
