Here’s a chance to experience two of Kenya’s most special parks, off the beaten trail. Ol Pejeta is dense with predators but also offers views of less-seen endangered species. Samburu hosts hundreds of elephants and unique varieties like Grevy’s zebra, Beisa onyx, and plenty of birdlife. Both are relatively close to Nairobi for a comfortable, easy-paced African safari.
Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes you with all of Africa’s Big Five – including a large population of lions and even greater numbers of endangered black rhinos. This is the only place in Kenya where you’ll get to see chimpanzees, protected, and nurtured in the Sweetwaters Sanctuary.
Samburu National Reserve surpasses many of them in its great numbers of big cats – lions, leopard, and cheetah. Not to mention elephants. The park boasts some 900 of these great, noble creatures. And if you’d like to see some out-of-the-way species, the reserve offers sightings of the unusual oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk.

Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi area hotel, Nairobi airport or Nairobi area residence for the drive to Ol Pejeta.
We’ll travel through the central highlands and even make stops to view coffee and tea plantations along our route. Arriving at Ol Pejeta, we’ll break for lunch and then embark on our first game drive of the safari!
There’s so much to see in this special reserve – six prides of lions roam these plains along with other big cats and African wild dogs. We’ll explore the endangered species enclosure – a large drive-through area, home to a great population of black rhinos.
Adding more fun to this versatile park is the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary – the only place in Kenya where you can observe these intelligent and fascinating creatures.
Overnight
We’ll spend the night at Ol Pejeta at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp.
(180 km Appx: 3 hrs.)
We’ll rise early to enjoy the morning light and the first stirrings of wildlife upon the grasslands here.
After breakfast, we’ll take a final game drive through the sanctuary and we’re off to Samburu Park.
This will be an easy and picturesque drive over the Kenya highlands, and we’ll pass through several climate zones on our way north.
We’ll arrive at Samburu Park and its lifeblood, the Ewaso Nyiro River, providing the wildlife with its life-sustaining waters. Here at the river, we will look for lions, buffalo, elephant, and even hippo.
Overnight
We’ll spend the first two nights at Samburu at your lodge or tented camp.
Let’s get up with the sun to enjoy the breaking of a new day in this wild and active park.
This is a day of unlimited game drives… if you wish. Just let your driver/guide know how you would like to plan your time.
At the Ewaso Nyiro River, we’ll be watching the park’s great populations of lion and elephant, who come to this watering spot to refresh.
At Samburu, we can also spot species not found elsewhere like the reticulated giraffe, Oryx, Somali ostrich, and Grevy’s zebra.
The park also shows off over 450 species of avian life, including kingfisher, vulture, guinea fowl, falcon, and eagle. Despite its arid appearance, Samburu offers many surprises for the curious safari-goer.
